Seriously. How many?
List them out in your head or on paper.
Did any of the plans “work”?
If they did, why did they stop working?
If they didn’t work, why not?
I’m going to bet that you blame every failure on yourself.
You’re telling yourself things like:
I don’t have the willpower.
I’m not organized enough.
I don’t work hard enough at it.
I let myself go.
I can’t stick with anything.
I just can’t get it right.
I hear it time and time again.
Women who think that failing at weight loss is a personal failure.
And yet, in reality, what I see are women who work SO INCREDIBLY HARD.
Who never give up.
Who try over and over and over again.
Who sacrifice, and deprive, and push themselves to very unnatural limits, regularly.
These are not lazy women.
These are not women who are failing.
These are women who are actually incredibly dedicated and successful and smart. Who apply all of the knowledge they have about weight and food and health perfectly. Who work the tools that diet culture give us. Who are actually “getting it right” every day.
And this is where the real problem lies.
The tools. The info. The tips and techniques.
THEY ARE WRONG.
They are all wrong.
They don’t result in long term weight loss for 95% of women, they slow metabolism, they encourage weight gain and reactive (sometimes called “binge”) eating, and drive us to eat emotionally.
It’s time to recognize that YOU aren’t failing.
You just happen to live within a system that is failing you.
A system that encourages perfect over present and sacrifice over peace.
